Pregnancy is an important and significant event in any woman’s life and Foot Reflexology can provide you with support at every stage from pre-conception to post-natal support. The only exception is during the first trimester when treatment is not recommended.
As practised today, reflexology is both a science and an art. Although a highly effective healing system for thousands of years, since the beginning of the twentieth century our understanding and practice has been significantly enriched by the volumes of research and development that have led to the methodologies we use today. Reflexology works as a way to activate the healing powers of the body and is based on the principle that all parts of our body are connected by energy pathways ending in the hands, feet, face, scalp and ears. The focus of a foot reflexology treatment is on applying pressure to specific zones on the feet and ankles. This stimulates healing in the corresponding organs, glands and structures, releases areas of tension and helps energy flow more freely throughout the body.
During the session, the recipient is supported comfortably on the couch with feet and ankles uncovered. I manually stimulate specific points and zones on these areas. The pressure applied is not uniform as different points need different degrees of stimulation; but precision is more important than power. I open and close the treatment with relaxation sequences.
Sometimes, getting pregnant is difficult. Foot reflexology helps to alleviate the worry and stress which can prevent conception and can help address physiological issues as well. The stimulation of appropriate reflex areas on the feet encourages the secretion of reproductive hormones, enriches blood supply to reproductive organs and glands, relieves obstructions or blockages to conception and de-toxifies the whole system.
During pregnancy there may be periods of discomfort and fatigue. These can be avoided or greatly diminished with the help of foot reflexology. Significant relief can be achieved for a range of common problems associated with pregnancy including back pain, constipation, fluid retention, fatigue, headaches, haemorrhoids, insomnia, leg cramps, nausea, sore breasts, stomach cramp and swollen ankles.
Once the baby is born, foot reflexology can be hugely beneficial in dealing with problems that may include difficulty passing urine, back ache, insomnia, discomfort caused by wind, hormonal imbalances, stress, tiredness and depression.
